Today the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce announced three awards recognizing outstanding volunteer service in the community.  According to Chamber Board Chairman John Mark Fones, “Every year, our Chamber and our community benefit from the hard work of our volunteers.  I’m confident in saying that the level of success our organization has achieved would not be possible without these volunteers’ support and dedication. From recruiting new partners to securing sponsorships to sitting on our committees to being part of our Board of Directors and Ambassadors Club, these volunteers donate countless hours of their time to the Chamber. We’re extremely fortunate to have such a loyal volunteer base, and we thank each volunteer for their commitment.”

Ambassador of the Year

The Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors Club is a group of volunteers that dedicates countless hours to the Chamber. They assist the Chamber in recruitment efforts and extend goodwill throughout the community. Collectively they spend more than 4,000 hours annually giving back to this organization. Each year the Ambassadors nominate a fellow Ambassador that has done an outstanding job for the Chamber. For 2013, Mayor Bruce Wilkerson was named “Ambassador of the Year” for his outstanding contributions.

Board Volunteer of the Year

The Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors serves as the governing body of the Chamber, and these volunteer leaders provide guidance for the Chamber’s strategic initiatives. They spend numerous hours at the Chamber and at Chamber events. Each year, a Board of Directors member is selected who has gone above and beyond the regular duties as a Board member. The 2013 Board Volunteer of the Year is D. Gaines Penn, of English, Lucas, Priest, and Owsley, LLP.
